Yu Hsiao has earned himself a reputation for being a "Beast" ever since he joined high school cross country. He embraces the need to suffer in order to go beyond his limits in training and racing. One distinct example is during Vineman 70.3 '14, when he crashed on his bike 20 miles in, severely injuring his knee with multiple laceration. Refusing to throw in the towel, he fought on, finishing in top 10 with a time of 4:09:23.
Yu's determination and grit has earned him respect from his peers and the endurance sport community. Because Yu's not the biggest or most talented guy in the world. He may not be the most gifted physical specimen you've seen, but he's got a heart of lion and he never gives up until he passes that finish line.
Since graduating in 2014 from Stanford University and UCLA with Masters and Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, he has competed in 25 half ironmans, 1 full ironman, and achieved multiple top 10 finishes against the best in the world.Yu has an unique approach to training and racing by using engineering to solve fundamental problems, such as addressing his flaws in technique in all three sports and perfecting them meticulously. Yu currently balances training as a professional and full time job as an engineer in Silicon Valley.
